![]() ![]() I figure if I was able to disable all the other audio devices, the Mac Mini would have no choice but to always default to the only audio device I leave enabled, the HDMI. This is very annoying because whenever I do turn on the surround sound/TV again, I need to manually switch audio output back to HDMI by entering system preferences/ Sound. Hold down the Alt/Option key on your keyboard. If you do not see the speaker icon, navigate to System. Make sure you can see the small speaker icon in the menu bar. ![]() I'm assuming it does this because it somehow senses that the HDMI cable is no longer able to output sound so it defaults to something else to ensure sound still plays. Quickly Switch Audio Output or Input on macOS 1. Hold down the alt (option) key and click the volume icon top right in your menu bar, you’ll get a list of audio I/O to select from. ![]() want to ensure that my Mac Mini always uses the HDMI cable to output sound but when I switch off my TV and surround sound reciever (to which the Mac mini is connected to via HDMI).Ĭurrently, whenever I turn off my surround sound reciever (but leave the Mac Mini running), the Mac Mini seems to switch the default sound output to either the internal speakers or soundflower. Maybe this isn’t helpful as it’s not a shortcut as in a file for the shortcuts app, but it is a quick way to reach what you need. I have a 2011 Mac Mini running OSX 10.8.5. ![]()
